Unilateral brain injury to pregnant rats induces asymmetric neurological deficits in the offspring

چکیده

Effects of environmental factors may be transmitted to the following generation, and cause neuropsychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder in offspring. Enhanced synaptic plasticity induced by enrichment also transmitted. We here test hypothesis that effects brain injury pregnant animals produce neurological deficits Unilateral (UBI) ablation hindlimb sensorimotor cortex rats resulted development postural asymmetry (HL-PA), impairment balance coordination beam walking The offspring with left UBI exhibited HL-PA before after spinal cord transection contralesional (i.e., right) flexion. right caused develop however was cryptic not-lateralized; it evident only spinalization, characterized similar occurrence ipsi- persisted spinalization suggesting encoded lumbar neurocircuits control muscles. Balance were affected but not UBI. Thus, a unilateral lesion intergenerationally transmitted, this process depend on side injury. results suggest existence left-right side-specific mechanisms mediate transmission lateralized trauma from mother fetus.

Combined Hemorrhagic Shock and Unilateral Common Carotid Occlusion Induces Neurological Injury in Adult Male Rats

Background: Clinical assessment reveals that patients after surgery of cardiopulmonary bypass or coronary bypass experience postoperative cognitive dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate whether resuscitation after a hemorrhagic shock (HS) and/or mild cerebral ischemia caused by a unilateral common carotid artery occlusion (UCCAO) can cause brain injury and concomitant neurological dysfun...

Propofol Exposure in Pregnant Rats Induces Neurotoxicity and Persistent Learning Deficit in the Offspring

Propofol is a general anesthetic widely used in surgical procedures, including those in pregnant women. Preclinical studies suggest that propofol may cause neuronal injury to the offspring of primates if it is administered during pregnancy. However, it is unknown whether those neuronal changes would lead to long-term behavioral deficits in the offspring. In this study, propofol (0.4 mg/kg/min, ...

The Effects of Cyclooxygenase Inhibitors on the Brain Inflammatory Response Following Traumatic Brain Injury in Rats

Objective(s) Cytokines such as IL-1β are involved in inflammatory responses. This study evaluated the role of two different kinds of drugs (ibuprofen and celecoxib) on brain IL-10 and IL-1β after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in male rats. Materials and Methods Rats were assigned into 6 groups: intact, sham, TBI, and treated rats with vehicle, celecoxib or iboprophen. Cytokine concentrations ...

The Effects of Estrogen Receptors' Antagonist on Brain Edema, Intracranial Pressure and Neurological Outcomes after Traumatic Brain Injury in Rat

Background: In previous studies, the neuroprotective effect of 17&beta-estradiol in diffuse traumatic brain injury has been shown. This study used ICI 182,780, a non-selective estrogen receptor antagonist, to test the hypothesis that the neuroprotective effect of 17&beta-estradiol in traumatic brain injury is mediated by the estrogen receptors. Methods: The ovariectomized rats were divided into...

Alterations in dopamine related behavior of the offspring of pregnant Wistar rats exposed to noise pollution stress

Introduction: Effects of stress on nervous system activity and development are well defined. In the present study, the effects of maternal stress on dopamine-related behavior in the offspring were studied. Methods: Female pregnant Wistar rats (200 g) were randomly exposed to the noise pollution stress (125 db) for 14 days (5 min/day). The time of exposure was random in order to avoid adaptat...
